Living in central Illinois, our journey at Prairie Rose Alpacas began in 2011 when we visited a local farm during “National Alpaca Days.” Alpacas became the livestock of our choice because they are easy to handle, hardy, leave little to no carbon footprint and in fact their fecal "beans" add to the environment. In addition, they produce sustainable products of fiber, breeding services and breeding stock. Prairie Rose Alpacas was born that fateful September afternoon and we haven't looked back since!

We began with a small herd of foundation females purchased from our friends and mentors Bart and Rhonda Leinberger at Alpacas of Indian Point Hills. The next year saw the birth of our first crop of cria, Graziosio Fiorellino (Gracie) and Kiss of Light (Beaker), expansion of our foundation herd, and Bruce, Barb's older brother, joined in. We continued to educate ourselves about these wonderful creatures and the more we learned about alpacas the more we became invested in helping to advance the alpaca industry. We haven taken steps to enlarge our own herd with quality stock from leading North American breeders, and continuing our education with seminars and showing at AOA certified alpaca shows.

We are confident in our farm's ability to provide both high quality stud services and amiable animals for fiber enthusiasts and 4-H clubs alike. Take a look around our site and feel free to contact us with any questions regarding the alpacas you see there. We love to chat with current alpaca owners, future alpaca owners, or just anyone interested in alpacas!

Unfortunately, the farm is closed to public tours at this time.

First and foremost we will strive to be good stewards of God’s bountiful gifts to us, and are grateful for this wonderful opportunity that He has provided. Therefore, Prairie Rose Alpacas, LLC will make business decisions based on just, moral standards and ethical business practices.

We will breed quality, healthy, disease free alpacas with proper conformation to produce fiber of increasing quality with each successive generation. Successful progress for fiber quality will be quantitatively assessed by yearly histograms for each breeding animal. Records will be kept documenting this objective measurement of progress as well as records documenting herd
health through both preventative medicine and herd management.

We will continue our professional development in the alpaca business through attendance at seminars and shows, obtaining advice from experienced breeders as well as keeping abreast of the current research advances.

We will provide those who purchase our animals with guidance and mentoring support.

We will attempt to educate the public on the sustainability of alpacas and the myriad of uses for the fiber through demonstrations and attendance at public events.
